Starlit Stallion 
   
 "See how the stallions shake in every limb" wrote Virgil,  "if they but catch the scent of love upon the breeze." And so the stallion, with the scent of love perfuming the night air, begins to prance, as though he had been taught to move that way, arching his splendid neck and lifting his legs in a nocturnal rhapsodic dance, overcome by the passion of his approaching encounter with the distant mare.  

The First Day 
   
 As a bee circles his head, the foal struggles to his feet and noses the warm underside of his mother, seeking the source of food that his frail, spindly body needs. And suddenly his search is rewarded. "He was very much a prince now" wrote Mary O'Hara, "doing as he pleased, commanding this flow of nectar. There was a new miracle of heat and power and arrogance inside of him."
